Mineral safeguarding area
Mineral resources are natural concentrations of minerals or, in the case of aggregates, bodies of rock that are, or may become, of economic interest due to their inherent properties.
The national planning policy framework (nppf) defines a mineral safeguarding area as:
'An area designated by Minerals Planning Authorities which covers known deposits of minerals which are desired to be kept safeguarded from unnecessary sterilisation by non-mineral development.'
